SSM Families: The Staffords

October 17, 2016

“Working at Shattuck is not a career, it’s a lifestyle.” - Gordie Stafford

Gordie and Debi Stafford arrived at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in 2000. They were a dynamic duo of English teachers with the added benefit that Gordie was a hockey coach. Over the course of their time at SSM, they have been involved in many activities. For instance, Deb has directed the middle school plays and more recently, has helped to coach the volleyball team. Gordie has been the long-time Girls’ Prep Head Coach and Director of Girls Hockey, and was recently named Director of SSM Hockey in July, 2016.

Their son, Drew, joined them as a student-athlete at the school for three years before graduating in 2003. He then headed to the University of North Dakota and is still enjoying a successful, 10 year, professional hockey career, most recently, with the Winnipeg Jets. Their daughter, Lindsey, also migrated to Faribault in 2000 with her 18-month old daughter, Aubrey. In 2011, Lindsey joined the SSM staff as its Business Development Manager. Aubrey, having grown up around SSM, became a student in 7th grade and is now a member of the Class of 2017.

Sixteen years and three generations later–the Staffords are ALL IN at SSM. Gordie says, “I often tell families that working at Shattuck is not a career, it’s a lifestyle,” reflects Gordie. “This is true for our family.”
