SSM Families: The Cavelliers

December 05, 2016

“We love living in the SSM community. We are far away from our families, and when the boys were born, everyone offered us a helping hand.”

- Courtney Cavellier

Matthew and Courtney Cavellier arrived at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in 2004 from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Courtney had been a literacy specialist in the Brookline Public Schools, and Matt was working as a learning specialist at Kingsley Montessori School in Boston. Since then they have both held quite a few roles at SSM. Courtney started as the Director of the Center for Academic Achievement, became Director of Studies, taught English along the way, and is now Associate Head of School for Academics. Matt taught English, served as Director of Residential Life and Community Life, directed the weCreate Center in its first few years, and is now our Upper School Director.

Since arriving here, Matt and Courtney adopted two dogs (who Matt named Hideki and Bernie after New York Yankees), were married by Fr. Doyle at the Minnesota Zoo, traveled to all 50 states, and had twin boys, Peter and Joseph. When the boys were born, the Cavelliers lived in Clapp Dorm, where the boys loved making the rounds to supervise study hall and facilitate room checks for the big kids! Nowadays, they help make brownies for the students, get spoiled in the SSM dining hall, and love to ride their bikes to visit the playgrounds and their friends on the Shattuck campus.

Courtney says, “We love living in the SSM community. We are far away from our families, and when the boys were born, everyone offered us a helping hand. I love working at SSM, too. It’s a vibrant, innovative environment, and I’m consistently inspired by and impressed by our hard-working students, staff, and faculty. I feel very fortunate for the lives we have built here in Faribault.”
