ScholarShift Stories: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

December 14, 2016

Students enjoy a day with Shakespeare in St. Paul during latest ScholarShift module.

On Friday, December 9 as part of a recent ScholarShift module, seven Upper School students attended a showing of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Park Square Theatre in St. Paul.

The group, led by English Instructors Kitty Gorman and Hayley Rosenfield, included resident actors and some students had experienced Shakespeare tragedies, and the whimsical production was enjoyed by all. The van ride to the Theatre consisted of tough trivia delivered in a quiz bowl-type format and included lunch.

About the play: The course of true love never did run smooth, but who expected fairies and magic potions? Facing an arranged marriage, Hermia and her forbidden Lysander escape to the forest, but Demetrius follows in hot pursuit, which makes Helena follow in hot pursuit. The woodland kingdom of mischievous sprites holds its own surprises, and four lovers find themselves in a magical world turned topsy-turvy.
