SSM Students Lead Tour of SageGlass Headquarters

March 14, 2017

Powered by the [email protected] program, a group of local students visit SageGlass as part of the “Hometown Hi-Tech Tour” series.

Through Shattuck-St. Mary’s [email protected] program, the Hometown Hi-Tech Tour series kicked off on Thursday, March 9 with a visit to SageGlass in Faribault. Open to local students in grades 5-12, the visit was the first of three local tours included in the series.

SageGlass is headquartered in Faribault and also has an international office in Switzerland. They specialize in coating dynamic architectural tinted glass using nanotechnology and ceramic materials. SageGlass engineer Mark Burdis led the tour of the facility and walked students through the manufacturing process of glass.

In addition to learning more about each organization, a primary focus of the tours is for attendees to learn more about the careers and backgrounds of the employees at each company–and to potentially pique student interest in the fields explored.

The Hometown Hi-Tech Tour will continue on April 13 with a visit to MRG Tool and Die and commence on May 4 with a stop at Faribault’s Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
