Soccer Player shares Life at SSM Through Video Production

May 28, 2020

A member of the Boys Soccer Center of Excellence, Adolfo Diaz ’22 kept himself extra busy this school year by creating his own YouTube channel to document his journey through Shattuck-St. Mary’s and the rest of his soccer career.

Narrated with Adolfo’s characteristic cheerfulness and hardworking attitude, his videos give viewers an idea of what life at SSM might be like, from his story of how he got accepted to the School to what it was like when the School transitioned to distance-learning.

In previous years, Adolfo struggled with injuries as he played in the soccer Development Academy. He started his YouTube channel to document his progress in meeting his goals of moving up on the SSM soccer teams and eventually getting exposure to college coaches and teams. He decided that video editing would be a more engaging way to record his experiences, both for himself and his audience, as well as give him the opportunity to learn a new skill. In this spring’s Performing and Visual Arts Awards Ceremony, Adolfo was honored with the Jay Wang Animation and Video Award, which is presented to the Upper School student who, in the judgment of the visual arts faculty, has demonstrated excellence in animation and/or video.
