Head of School Celebrates Colleagues on World Teachers Day and National Coaches Day

October 08, 2020

Our school leader shares his appreciation for the extremely talented and devoted faculty and coaching staff that make Shattuck-St. Mary’s one of the best Schools in the nation.

Greetings from Faribault,

This week, we celebrated some important people in our community. Monday was World Teachers Day, and Tuesday was National Coaches Day. We, of course, have a plethora of excellent teachers and coaches at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, and we asked them to nominate their colleagues in one of five different categories: All-Star Sanity Sharer, Eternal Optimist, Ingenious Innovator, Most Memorable Mentor, and Safety Guru Extraordinaire.

Almost 200 nominations poured in as colleagues rushed to share their thoughts about the teacher in the classroom next door and the coach on the adjacent practice surface. Some fast facts: 83 different members of our community were nominated, 34 members were nominated in two or more categories, 11 members were nominated in three or more categories, 3 members were nominated in four or more categories, and 1 member of our community was nominated in all five categories. Those are some pretty astounding numbers.

As nominated by our colleagues, our eight Triple Threats are: Ms. Melissa Boik, Mr. Scott Bowers, Mr. Steve Cornish, Mr. Hollie Gray, Ms. Kathy Klein, Ms. Andrea Moyer, Ms. Stephanie Vagle, and Ms. Brenna Whitten. Our two Quadruple Threats are Mr. Ben Umhoefer and Dr. Nicole Taynton. And our Quintuple Threat—our resident expert on Sanity, Optimism, Innovating, Mentoring, and Safety—is none other than Ms. Sofia Viruly!

I am truly honored to work with a most-impressive staff, filled with colleagues who understand the importance of taking care of one another. I invite you to share your appreciation with the members of our team who have had an impact on your lives. Kind words mean a lot.

Stay healthy and safe,
